Length 160mm Tinplate with Clockwork Motor by JNF, Germany.In 1939 the latest motoring sensation was Ferdinand Porsche's KDF-Wagen ('Strength Through Joy Car') and the German Toymakers vied with each other to provide miniature versions which were eagerly snapped up by children in that last year before World War 2. This rare and desirable Pre-War Toy (manufactured again from 1946-56) has a very accurate interior with beautifully lithographed seats and dashboard just like the real vehicle. It is doubtful if the person who made the patterns for this toy car ever actually saw the real vehicle and probably took his inspiration from the artist's impression - hence the rather elongated lines. Beautiful nevertheless. |
