About Me

MY name is Alexander Cameron and I am Scottish. I have been collecting toy cars since whenever and  they are my abiding passion - I have put together a very large collection of toy and model cars over the past 40 years or so, and the interest has just grown - it is a bit like a disease that gets worse - the only difference is that I am not actively seeking a cure! I am a bit of a magpie and used to buy everything which I saw that I liked. To a certain extent this still applies, however, I tend to specialize in models of cars from the early 1930's until the mid 1960's.

As for makes of real vehicle, I love American Cars of the 30's, 40's and 50's and Volkswagens. I am very interested in plastic toy cars and am not a "purist" in any way - if a toy appeals to me I add it to my collection. I collect in all scales but mainly in 1/43. In recent years I even ventured into 1/18 scale after vowing not to,  but there are so many excellent models in this scale I could not resist them. When time permits I build kits, both plastic and white metal, and I have so many unbuilt kits of American Cars in 1/25 scale that it would take a lifetime to build them all. I recently developed a renewed interest in the products of the English Toy Makers Lone Star who produced some wonderful models of American Cars.

My Collection has been featured in the Diecast Collector Magazine and many of my models have been used by my good friend Andrew Ralston to illustrate numerous articles which he has written for both the Diecast Collector  and the   Model Collector  magazines. Quite a few of my tinplate and plastic cars have been featured in Andrew's marvellous new book "The Toy Cars of Japan & Hong Kong" published by Schiffer Books, while some of my Lone Star models are shown in Andrew's earlier  book on Lone Star. Although I have been actively collecting since the age of 14 or so and am now 54 years old, I am constantly discovering toy cars which I never even knew existed - that is what makes this toy collecting hobby so rewarding.

Assembling a collection of model cars has not been a solitary experience. Over the years I have been fortunate to meet and retain as friends some of the most knowledgeable of collectors. I owe an eternal debt of gratitude to these people and  therefore wish to dedicate this Site to my collecting friends old and new, among whom I would specially mention Francis Pierre, Jim McLachlan, new contacts such as Robert Rodgers, and not least Andrew Ralston, who have all greatly helped me with my hobby and who share my passion for model cars. To these and many other people I say -Thank You! A special mention must be made of my good friend Iain Scott, who has given a great deal of his time and energy to designing and compiling these Pages which I hope many people will enjoy .
